Cinnabao Lotus Bun Recipe

 
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • Arroyo Kitchen Lotus Buns
 
Bun Preparations:

Steam:
  • Use an electrical steam or traditional steamer.
  • Toss buns into steamer and leave in steamer for 5 to 10 minutes.

    OR

    Microwave:

    • Wrap bun(s) with wet paper towel.
    • Microwave on low for 30 to 45 seconds.

     

    Cooking Instructions:
    1. In a bowl, whisk butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer until well incorporated and free of lumps.
    2. Add vanilla extract and salt; stir until well combined.
    3. With the electric mixer on low, gradually add powdered sugar until well combined.
    4. In a separate container or tray, mix cinnamon powder and sugar together.
    5. Heat the oil in a pan.
    6. Fry the bun on each side until golden brown, for about 30 seconds.
    7. Toss the fried buns into the cinnamon sugar mix and coat thoroughly.
    8. Cool for 2-3 minutes.
    9. Open up the bun and spread cream cheese frosting inside.
    10. Serve and enjoy!
